There are times when a preference setting can become corrupt and will cause unexpected behaviors in the application.  Preferences are stored on a user by user basis so at times one user may experience issues on a page when another will not.  Theses behaviors can include obvious errors such as red "flares" at the top of the application that show an error, the "Whoops we hit a snag" (also known as "Yeti Betty"), but may also manifest themselves as issues with unexpected results when using filters.  This article will not discuss individual preferences; only the tools that are commonly used to deal with them.

Option 1: Preference Deleter

The preference deleter is available as a community app from GitHub.  In order to install it, perform the following steps:

1. On your dashboard or a custom page, add the "Custom HTML" app from the App Catalog.
2. Paste the Preference Deleter code from this URL into the HTML section of the Custom HTML app. and <Save>.
3. You will be prompted to enter the Preference Name.  This string will be found in a corresponding knowledge article or provided by support.
4. Make sure there are no beginning or ending spaces in the entry and click Find Preference.
5. Then click the Delete button and confirm Delete Preference Permanently.
6. Once you have deleted all preferences, click the Find Preference button again and ensure that you see a popup box titled Preference Not Found.
7. Logout immediately (don't navigate to any other page, so as not to save any additional preferences).
8. Log back in and check the page that had the issue.

Option 2: Preference Viewer

The Preference Viewer is built into Rally, however not all users will have this enabled.  Support is able to switch this on for users.  In order to access the Preference Viewer perform the following steps:

1. Click the "down caret" next to your avatar icon in the upper right corner of the application
2. Click My Settings
3. Click Preference Viewer
4. The Name column contains the preference string that is found in a corresponding knowledge article or provided by support.
5. Use the navigation controls on the bottom right to cycle through the pages until you locate your preference string
6. You may set the number of items per page using the control on the lower left of the screen
7. Click the ⓧ icon on the right of the page to delete the preference.  Note there is no delete confirmation or undo.
8. Logout immediately (don't navigate to any other page, so as not to save any additional preferences).
9. Log back in and check the page that had the issue.
