Issue/Introduction

Steps to do a clean uninstall of Open Workbench (OWB).

Environment

Release: All

Cause

Doing a clean uninstall / install is especially recommended if running into issues during an upgrade of OWB. Sometimes, due to permission restrictions or other issues on the machine, some of the OWB components do not get uninstalled on their own. If that is the case, a manual uninstall is needed to remove the remaining components.

Resolution

  1. Uninstall the following components from Control Panel:
    • Open Workbench (OWB)
Note: prior to uninstalling OWB, if you have any custom views for OWB, make sure to save these in a separate folder prior to the uninstall.
    • CA PPM Microsoft Project Interface
    • CA PPM Schedule Connect
    • CAClarityAddin
  2. Clean out the Registry:
    1. On the workstation, go to Start and type 'regedit' in the search field. Select regedit.exe.
    2. Select File -> Export and enter a File Name to store the back-up of the registry
    3. Once finished creating a backup, delete the following keys if they exist:
      • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Schedlink.exe
      • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\nWbench
      • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Niku
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Niku
      • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Niku
Note that some of the keys may not exist; also, deleting each key will correctly delete all of their subkeys
  3. Reboot the workstation.
  4. Go to Add/Remove Programs again and check that there is no trace left of the products that you have removed at step 1.
  5. Delete the following folders if they are listed (First make a backup of any views you may have saved in the folders if they are still there):
    • C:\CA\PPM\CA PPM Schedule Connect
    • C:\Program Files\CA\PPM Setups
    • C:\Program Files\Open Workbench
    • %LOCALAPPDATA%\VirtualStore\Program Files\Open Workbench

Some of these folders may not exist.
On 64-bit systems, "Program Files (x86)" may be used instead of "Program Files" in all the previous paths.
  6. Reinstall OWB.
    • Ensure the version being installed is the same version and patch level as that of Clarity.
    • The OWB Version can be found in Clarity by going to Home->Account Settings->Software Downloads
